Overview of Babcock University

Babcock University was named after an American missionary by the name of David C. Babcock, who pioneered the work of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Nigeria in 1914. He was based in Erunmu, Oyo State, Nigeria. The Seventh-day Adventist education system is the world’s second-largest Christian school system.

The university was established as the Adventist College of West Africa (ACWA) in 1959, initially with seven students hosted at the home of Chief Olufemi Okulaja. In 1975, it changed its name to the Adventist Seminary of West Africa (ASWA). The university was officially inaugurated on April 20, 1999. 

This institution is located at Alishan-Remo, equidistant between Ibadan and Lagos. It was founded in the year 1959. As of 2009, the enrollment figure was saying about 6000. 

This tertiary institution of learning was formerly called Adventist College of West Africa and then Adventist Seminary of West Africa. In 2017, the university had its first set of graduates from the Ben Carson School of Medicine

Babcock University Admission

Minimum qualification for the First Degree Programs: 5 credits at the SSCE/GCE O’Level/NECO/NABTEB Examinations or their equivalent (at most two sittings ). The subjects passed must include English Language and Mathematics; one sitting only for Medicine & Surgery. Candidates below 16 years of age are advised not to apply.

Babcock University Rules and Regulations

Babcock University is happy to admit students for 4-6 year programs. They accept only students who are at least 16 years. Below you will find a list of Babcock University admission rules and requirements for 2019.

Here are the main Babcock university rules and regulations you should follow:

  • 1 or 2 sittings and five credits at O’level NECO/SSCE/GCE/WAEC for other disciplines (first-degree program)
  • JAMB direct entry
  • Must have JAMB exam scores, which should be at least 200 points
  • JAMB admission letter if a student is transferred from a different institution
  • One sitting and five credits for the Surgery (Medicine) department

In other words, you should either pass JAMB, transfer, use direct entry service, or score 5 credits at NECO and other exams to be admitted to Babcock University.

Besides, each student who applies for Nursing (or medicine) through Direct Entry service has to meet these additional requirements:

  • Have a post-Registered Nurse (RN) certificate (such as RPHN, RPN, or RM)
  •  Be an RN at N&MCN
  •  Provide your N&MCN license
  •  Bring a reference letter from work
