How Does the GRE Test work?

How to Get a High GRE Score

Contrary to popular opinion, the GRE is easy to pass on the first trial. It covers 3 parameters, namely;

  • Analytical Thinking
  • Verbal Reasoning
  • Quantitative Reasoning

These three sections have their own unique rules, regulations, and instructions. Here’s a piece of the iceberg on what to expect in these three sections;

Analytical Writing

This section requires you to imagine and carefully examine an idea to defend it through rational thinking. Defend your idea using arguments and valid examples.

In contrast with a physical debate where gesticulations and eloquence are of necessity, convince the examiner only by the power of pen and paper.

You have 60 minutes to answer 2 questions in this section. Here’s some piece of advice, aim at a 6 point.

Verbal Reasoning

In this section, the examiners want to determine whether you’re a robot. You will come in contact with some incomplete data. What you’re expected to do is to draw the lines and conclusions.

Also, some questions in this section focus on meaning; you’re to decipher what the author wanted to say if it’s literal or figurative if some points are major themes or details, and so on.

Expect 6 text Completion questions, 4 sentence equivalence questions, 10 reading comprehension questions making it 20 total questions. You have 60 minutes for this section. Regarding the scoreline, aim at 200; if you miss, land at 170.

Quantitative Reasoning

I don’t mean to scare you, but it’s all MAAATHHH!!! Nothing other than math. You will find 7–8 quantitative comparison questions and 12–13 problem-solving questions. Whatever happens, get a 170.

Note: GRE is the only test you can RETAKE after writing it. Let’s say you didn’t get to the desired score and want to retake the test; you can go without another registration.

And that’s amazing because most other tests won’t let you return to some questions you already answered! It’s more like a guarantee to get your facts right and score high.

Why Do I need a High Score on GRE?
